Weekly 081

This weeks comic is based on the Faith No More song Mid-Life Crisis.
I took a little more time with this one. I got to think and re-think this. From the sketches below you can see it's progression.

Weekly 072

A battle between the old and the new!! Who Will Win Indeed!?! Style over substance? Age before beauty? Practical vs Digital? Lame over trendy?

I'm referencing the monsters from the past on the left with the Robot Monster, Dracula, and the Mutant from This Island Earth.
On the right with the present "monsters" we have a Transformer, that glittering vampire dude from Twilight, and a Prawn from District 9 (my new favorite Science Fiction movie).

Weekly 069

Based off of the song Esther by Phish from the Junta album.
ink and brush on paper

lyrics:
And he stood looking down at the innocent girl
And she stared at the bucket bewildered
Til he lifted the doll for the young girl to see
And a giant smile grew on his face
She saw the doll's eyes and she couldn't resist
And she thanked the man quickly and ran to the church
And she burst through the door with puppet held high
And a hush filled the chapel, and the people looked mean

Weekly 063

Now I'm always trying something new and here's my current experiment. These are the first two pages of what I'd like to see become a "chose what happens next" type of comic.
I want these two pages to be the point at which one chooses what will happen next. I'm going to be taking suggestions as well as having fun myself. I don't want any sort of epic plots but something that I can do in a page or two. If you have an idea, leave it as a comment below, unless you don't want everyone to see it, send me an email.
Editor's Note: Some one out there might recognize The ANT from my old mini comic days. I've brought him back to life with a little tweaking and hope that this turns out to be a good place for him.

Here's what I came up with based on several suggestions combined.

Weekly 061

This week is another lyrical based piece.
Weird Al was such an influence on me as a kid. I believe that he helped me grow this nice and sick sense of humor that I have now. Without his lyrics I might not have found so much fun in the gross. His original songs have sometimes been my favorites of his. Such as the song I used in this comic. The song is Good Old Days, it's from Even Worse, Weird Al's answer to Michael Jackson's Bad. I chose this song, because as a kid, I naively enjoyed the pseudo-happiness and thought it was funny. Now... I think it's disturbing and fucked up. Still hillarious though.

Weekly 058

So this is the continuation of this comic.
Please bear with me on these comics. They're rough pencils just to establish the story. I'll clean them up and ink them when it's all done. I want to serialize a story that is longer than one page so I'm doing that here in these weeklies. I hope to contain the story within 12 segments.
Thanks for your patience.

Weekly 057

Tom Waits was introduced to me by Joe Ferriss in 1995. I've loved every work and note that man has put together.
For this weeks "comic" I used "I Don't Wanna Grow Up" from the Bone Machine album. I usually get a lump in my throat when I hear this song. It hits me so hard. That maybe very silly to anyone who's heard it, but if you know, me I sort of live by this idea of not growing up. I vowed it to my grandmother VanCamp (RIP) when I was little and I don't want to give up on it.

Much like a bunch of my comics, the final idea comes to me out of nowhere. I knew this song was going to be the one I was going to use, but it dawned on my this morning to use kindergarten yearbook photos. I found a great page from a book online and it was perfect. There are even sentences next to them saying what they want to do when they grow up.
I hope it doesn't bum anyone out too much.

Weekly 056 2 versions

So I had this idea in my head. I came up with one way to illustrate it. Then later, it's brother was birthed from my head.
The top drawing is the first way I visualised this joke.

Weekly 054

I've got too much on my plate this month to bring you a finished comic. But this rough pencil piece should be enough.

It's also the beginning of a continuing story that will be featured each month. Keep an eye open for more.

Thanks
